You can visit the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse at any time of year to enjoy stunning views of Portland Harbor & the Casco Bay Islands, sand & pebble beaches, historic forts, ship traffic and walks ranging from relaxing to challenging.
The lighthouse is located at the end of a 900 foot breakwater on the Southern Maine Community College South Portland Campus in Lighthouse Circle at the end of Fort Road.
Our all-volunteer staff open the lighthouse for tours many Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend.
Admission to the lighthouse is $5.00 per person. Due to the steep ladders in the lighthouse, children must be 51″ tall to be admitted. Bare feet will not be permitted and visitors are discouraged from wearing flip-flop style shoes. Cast iron decks may be slippery at times.
Tickets may be purchased from our ticket booth and gift shop at the foot of the breakwater. All proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales go toward the maintenance and management of the lighthouse.

From downtown Portland, follow Highway 77 across the Casco Bay bridge. Continue on Broadway until reaching the stop sign at the entrance to Spring Point Marina. Turn right on Benjamin W Pickett Street. Continue to the end and turn left on Fort Road. Proceed through the campus of Southern Maine Community College until reaching the parking area on the waterfront. The lighthouse will be to your right. Please use caution and observe the speed limit when driving on the campus.
Follow our Lighthouse Open signs from the Casco Bay Bridge on Saturdays and Sundays when the lighthouse is open for tours.
Parking closest to the lighthouse is in the circle at the end of Fort Road. The gift shop & ticket booth are located next to building 32. The path from the parking lot along this building and around the inside of the fort is level and wheelchair accessible with many good photo ops along the way.
When SMCC is in session, parking can be a challenge! There are visitor spaces and it is okay to park in any of the student lots. Please do not park on the grass or in fire lanes. Click on the map to open the larger map of the entire campus and building labels.
We will try to accommodate requests for special tours of the lighthouse for a minimum donation of $100, or $5 per person for groups of 20 or more. Please use the message form to inquire about the availability of volunteers for the date and time you would like to visit. We will respond to your requests as quickly as possible.
